Trombones

Mátyás Papp

Lead

Papp studied jazz trombone at both the Kunstuniversität Graz and the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien in Austria. Because of this, he now leads a "double life", performing in bands and ensembles in both Hungary and Austria, most notably, he is a member of the Modern Art Orchestra big band, and leads his own group, The Coquette Jazz Band. In 2024 he received the Junior Prima Prize, the highest award for young Hungarian musicians. He has performed with jazz greats such as Peter Erskine, Bobby Shew, Tony Lakatos and Jiggs Whigham. Besides his work as a trombonist, Papp is also a skilled composer and arranger, winning the 2012 Hungarian Jazz Fedaration's Composing and Arranging Competition, and most recently arranging music for a night-long Dancing with the Stars gala show for the Margaret Island Open-Air Theater.

András Dénes

One of the most talented trombonists of his generation, Dénes is currently completing his Masters degree at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He has numerous competitions, prizes and scholarships under his belt, most notably winning the 2023 International Trombone Festival Frank Smith Competition. He is the principal trombonist of the Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the world renowned SzegEd TRombone ENsemble. He was a featured soloist on the 2025 New Year's concert of the Hungarian Radio Symphony. Dénes is a Sierman Music artist.

Bence Bodon

A founding member of Budapest Orchestra Project, Bodon is a trombonist and euphonium player in the Wind Ensemble of the Hungarian Police. He is also a member of the orchestra of the Comedy Theater of Budapest, the popular ska band sCompany, a regular substitute at the Hungarian National Opera, a session musician at Budapest Scoring, and an associate lecturer at the University of Theater and Film. 

GergÅ‘ Janák

Bass Trombone

A graduate of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Janák is currently the bass trombonist of the world famous Budapest Festival Orchestra. He has played at festivals such as the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Enescu Festival, and the Mahler Festival, at concert venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Philharmonie Luxembourg and the Wiener Konzerthaus. He is also an active big band musician in Budapest, performing with the BJC Big Band and the Nart Orchestra, as well as a regular session player at Budapest Scoring. Janák is a founding member of Budapest Orchestra Project.
